----------hardcover, about 9.5 x 12.5 inches, a Near Fine copy with a wee bit of light rubbing, unpaginated ( 280 pages), packed with stunning colour photos, ---"The secret sex life of plants and flowers --The notion of plant sexuality was initiated by Swedish botanist and physician Carl Linnaeus (1707 - 1778). Working with his collection of over 20,000 specimens, Linnaeus grouped flowers and plants in a Calendarium Florae, and systematically classified plant species by the number and arrangement of their reproductive parts, drawing direct parallels with human sexual organs. Highly controversial at the time, the assertion that a plant’s stamens and pistils mirror human genitalia resulted in a ’sexual revolution’ in plant taxonomy. --Swedish photographer Edvard Koinberg creates a modern visual counterpart to Linnaeus’s work, approaching the subject with equal passion and dedication. Having cultivated several hundred plants in his country house, Koinberg photographs each delicate bloom in his studio under perfect lighting conditions, depicting the life cycle of various flora as they bud, flourish and wane, resulting in a modern Calendarium Florae, a visual calendar that charts the year through flowers. --In Herbarium Amoris, Koinberg captures the lyricism and refulgent eroticism of the floral world in vivid close-ups, shot against dark backgrounds, the dew glittering on outspread petals, the most delicate of vegetal forms infused with unbridled life force. "---, the colour photography is sumptuous and really quite spectacular, overseas shipping (outside of Canada and the USA ) will require additional postage, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

-----------hardcover, about 9.25 x 11.25 inches, a Near Fine copy, in a lightly rubbed Very Good+ dustjacket, 192 pages, b&w and colour images and photos throughout, ---"German printmaker, draftsman, and sculptor Kathe Kollwitz's images of mothers and children and of protest against social injustice have long been admired by both critics and the public. Kollwitz adhered to a figurative style in the era of abstraction and she depicted socially-engaged subject matter when it was unfashionable. Critics have often focused on those issues and have rarely studied the ways in which the artist manipulated technique and resolved formal problems. This illustrated book redresses this imbalance, portraying Kollwitz as an innovative and virtuosic artist rather than as merely a chronicler of particular themes. The book consists of three essays on Kollwitz - Elizabeth Prelinger provides a reassessment of Kollwitz as an artist; Alessandra Comini presents a discussion of Kollwitz's life in Berlin during the tumultuous period that spanned two world wars; and Hildegard Bachert surveys the reception of Kollwitz in Germany and America as manifested in collections of her works. The volume, which includes a selection examples of Kollwitz's work, juxtaposes preparatory drawings with finished art, illustrating the arduous experimental process by which she attained her results. Themes important to Kollwitz - such as self portraits, political and social activism as illustrated in the cycles "The Weavers' Rebellion" and "The Peasants' War", love and death, nudes, workers, and war and revolution - are explored in all media."---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

-----------approx. 11 1/4" x 14 1/2", titled Fenwick Lansdowne, A new album of bird paintings, contains 6 loose pages which are the same size as the portfolio. All of the art reproduced is taken from MacLean's magazine (a Canadian mag). The introductory essay has the latest date as 1957 in reference to his biography but my feeling is that this is slightly later (the only thing that might help pinpoint an actual date is a refernce to his paintings "now selling for one hundred dollars" ( I'll take 6, please). The condition of the portfolio itself is Good with some wear and tear and curling to the corners of the cover/folder and the leaves, a few small spots on some of the leaves, --- this contains 4 full size sheets depicting the Pelagic Cormorants, the Surf Scoter, a Skylark, the American Goldfinch, as well there are two pages with half page illos of the Great Blue Heron, the Semipalmated Plover, the Rufous Humming Bird, and the Northern Shrike, front panel shows the Red-Shafted Flicker, rear panel shows the Northwestern Crow, according to WorldCat this 2nd portfolio was issued with illustrations taken from the 1957 issue of Maclean's magazine, the 1st portfolio had 7 leaves ---this portfolio was issued with 6 leaves so is complete, scarce, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo
