------------softcover, about 8.25 x 10.75 inches, a Near Fine copy, 322 pages, b&w photos throughout, ---"This book is the fruit of many years of research initiated by Edward H. Murray, Editor of the Canadian Horseshoe Pitchers Yearbook from 1976 to 1986, and completed by Andre Leclerc, current Editor of the Yearbook and Horseshoe Canada Historian. The history book is produced by Horseshoe Canada Association. ---The fabulous History of Horseshoe Pitching in Canada is told through more than 322 pages and 200 pictures! --It tells about the first traces of the game in Canada. The first clubs and organizations. The first Canadian championships in 1927 and all the ones that followed up until 2000. Every participant we found is included (around 7000 names!). It includes a separate section about women’s horseshoe pitching. And one about each province where the champions are listed but also the old championship reports (prior to 1976). You’ll find all kinds of stats, player and volunteer profiles… You’ll even find the performances of our Canadians in major events such as the World Tournament, Greenville Classic and Eastern National. A great tribute to the pitchers and volunteers that have made the History of Horseshoe Pitching in Canada!"---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

-----------, softcover, about 7 x 10 inches, a Near Fine copy, signed and inscribed by Lee in the year of publication, 303 pages, b&w photos and illustrations, ---"The Canada Company was responsible for the opening and settling of over two million acres of land in Upper Canada. Author Robert C. Lee focuses his attention on the extensive parcel of land on the shores of Lake Huron that became known as the Huron Tract. His comprehensive research explores the underlying forces leading to the formation of the Company, the intriguing mix of people charged with responsibilities for the Company and the overall impact of its operations, leading to its present-day legacy. The politics of the day, coupled with diverse and colourful personalities -- such as John Galt, Tiger Dunlop, William Allan, Thomas Mercer Jones, Frederick Widder, Sir Peregrine Maitland, Bishop Macdonnell and Bishop Strachan -- introduce an interesting blend of vision, intrigue, mischief and day-to-day survival strategies that make for compelling reading. Add to this the shareholders'' perspective of the Company versus the settlers'' perspective and you have a fascinating glimpse of pioneer conditions. ---Included are descriptions of early towns such as Guelph and Goderich, as well as background on the Huron Tract township names. ---"Robert Lee''s outstanding book brings to life the unusual assemblage of characters who were instrumental in the development of Upper Canada''s largest private settlement scheme -- the Huron Tract. Their relationships with each other, and especially with the Canada Company for which many of them worked, make a great story." ---- Lutzen Riedstra, Stratford-Perth Archivist ---"Robert Lee has vividly recreated the personalities and the political intrigues that were part of the Canada Company''s operation -- the largest one of its type in Ontario''s history. The most comprehensive work to date on this fascinating era, this book is eminently readable and a must-have for history lovers. - Ron Brown, author of Ghost Towns of Ontario---"---,any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

In 1855, the Kingston, an iron steamboat built for John Hamilton, appeared in the Great Lakes. When the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) toured British North America in 1860, the Kingston became his floating palace for much of his time between Quebec and Toronto. While many steamboats claimed to be floating palaces, the Kingston truly was one. In 1855, the Kingston, an iron steamboat built for John Hamilton (1802-82), appeared in the Great Lakes. When the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) came to British North America for the first royal tour in 1860, the Kingston became his floating palace for much of his time between Quebec and Toronto. Many steamboats claimed to be floating palaces. The Kingston was. The Kingston was wrecked many times and survived spectacular fires in 1872 and 1873. Late in her career, she was converted into a salvage vessel and renamed the Cornwall. In 1930 she was finally taken out and sunk near one of Kingston’s ship graveyards. There she remained until diver Rick Neilson discovered her in 1989. Today, the once palatial Kingston is a popular dive site and tourist attraction."---, ---contents include: Foreword; The Wreck of the CORNWALL: The Iron Steamboat; Jaohn Hamilton's Kingston; The Floating Palace; The KINGSTON and the Canadian Navigation Company; The BAVARIAN; The ALGERIAN; The CORNWALL; The CORNWALL and the Calvin Company; The CORNWALL and the Donnelly Salvage and Wrecking Co.; The CORNWALL and Sin-Mac Lines Limited; Epilogue; Appendix - A: Captains; B: Contracts and Descriptions C: Accidents D: Salvage Operations, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

----------hardcover, a Near Fine copy, in a lightly chipped and torn Good dustjacket, signed and inscribed by MacEwan, 207 pages, ---"there has since been no book that has brought to life early Calgary the way that Eye Opener Bob does. Perhaps more importantly, it's the closest we'll ever get to Robert Chambers Edwards Eye Opener Bob the irrepressible editor of Calgary's most singular newspaper, and the city's most singular denizen. Bob Edwards was a true Canadian original, the prototypical hard-drinking, pull-no-punches editor of the Calgary Eye Openerat the time the largest paper between Vancouver and Toronto, with a circulation of over 30,000 copies. A paper with the power to elect or dethrone governments, to bring the mighty CPR to reform its ways, and to skewer the pretensions of society like few before or since. Eye Opener Bob brings this fascinating character to life in all his glorious self-contradictions. MacEwan arrived in the city at just the right time to write Eye Opener Bob - the old Sandstone City hadn't yet been whitewashed over by the new money from the Leduc gusher, and there were still living people who had known Edwards. MacEwan ferreted out their stories as only he could do, combined the interviews with hard research, and the result is Grant MacEwan's best book by a country mile."---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo
