-----------hardcover, about 5.25w x 7.75h inches, a solid Good to very Good example, spine of the book is somewhat faded although the spine of the jacket is not, ink name, store stamp from an Australian bookshop ( Allan's of Adelaide ), a bit of foxing to endpapers, in an attractive Good price clipped dustjacket with some chips and tears, ---from the front flap: Which of the brown carthorse mares was really Corker, is the mystery that runs through this story of a caravan journey to the sea. Lindsey keeps the log of of the family's wandering, and it is good to read because it is about such real people. They think and say and do all the mad and surprising things that people say and do when they are on holiday and when they are happy. Everyone who has spent long days in the country will enjoy this book because although, like all good holidays theirs is full of unplanned excitements, Lindsey does not forget to record the more ordinary things like eating picnic meals, running across wet early morning meadows, and sleeping under the stars"---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

------------hardcover in the original box issued with the book, book is about 7.25 x 9.25 inches, a lovely Near Fine copy, very dark blue cloth which might actually be black as it is very dark, gilt lettering, colour paste-down on the front board reproduces the jacket art, this book was issued with the upper edge of the text block in yellow ---that yellow upper edge is still as bright and clean as the first day of issue, a very faint bit of browning to the front and rear blank endpapers from the dustjacket flap, a very slight erasure mark on front blank endpaper, no writing in the book, tight and square, likely as close to new as one could hope for ---this is in a Near Fine original dustjacket with just the tiniest bit of very slight crinkling at spine tips, no chips or tears, a beautiful example of the dustjacket which is now in a hi-quality mylar protector, ---this copy also has its original box with no tears to the box, some light edge and tip wear, light soiling and age toning to the box but the box has kept the book in as close to new condition as one could hope for, box lid has acolour pastedown of a different Edna Cooke illustration -----overall a wonderful example of a book that is heading for the 100 year mark, the copyright page states "Reprinted 1935" but I believe this is the first DIAL edition and the reprint designation is referring to the 1920 Duffield edition which also had the Cooke illustrations ---all other copies of this book seem to state Reprint edition which makes me believe that "REPRINTED" refers to the earlier edition by a different publisher, -----this contains: Jackanapes; Mary's Meadow; So-So; A Very Ill-Tempered Family; Lob Lie-by-the-Fire; The Peace Egg; Daddy Darwin's Dovecote; Dandelion Clocks; Old Father Christmas; The Kyrkegrim Turned Preacher; The Story of a Short Life, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

It is a nice house and the mousewife is for the most part happy collecting crumbs and preparing a nest for her future mouse-babies—yet she yearns for something more. But what? Her husband, for one, can’t imagine. “I think about cheese,” he advises her. “Why don’t you think about cheese?” ---Then an odd and exotic new creature, a turtledove, is brought into the house and placed in a gilded cage. A friendship develops as the dove tells the mousewife about things no house mouse has ever imagined, blue skies, tumbling clouds, tall trees, and far horizons, the memory of which haunt the dove in her captivity. The dove’s tales fill the mousewife with wonder and inspire her to take daring action. ---Rumer Godden’s lovely fable about unexpected friendship and bittersweet love was inspired by a story Dorothy Wordsworth wrote for her brother, William, and is accompanied by stunning pen-and-ink drawings by William Pène du Bois."---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo

------------hardcover, about 10w x 9.25h inches, a Near Fine copy in a very lightly rubbed near Fine price clipped dustjacket, no writing in the book, looks new, ---"On September 28, 1983, the discovery of a previously unknown tale by Wilhelm Grimm was reported on the front page of The New York Times. "After more than 150 years," the Times noted, "Hansel and Gretel, Snow-White, Rumpelstiltskin, and Cinderella will be joined by another Grimm fairy-tale character." The story of dear Mili was preserved in a letter Wilhelm Grimm wrote to a little girl in 1816, a letter that remained in her family's possession for over a century and a half. It tells of a mother who sends her daughter into the forest to save her from a terrible war. The child comes upon the hut of an old man, who gives her shelter, and she repays his kindness by serving him faithfully for what she thinks are three days. Actually, thirty years have passed, but Mili has remained safe, and with the old man's blessing there is still time for a tender reunion with her mother. As for the pictures that interpret Dear Mili?hailed by School Library Journal as "gorgeous"?they were a milestone in Maurice Sendak's career, the work of a master at the height of his powers"---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo
