----------large trade paperback size softcover, a Near Fine copy, signed by Pilgrim, 230 pages, b&w photos, " Varick Frissell came to St. Anthony, Newfoundland and Labrador, in the 1920s to work with Dr. Wilfred Grenfell and the International Grenfell Association. A Yale graduate and the son of a wealthy New Yorker, Frissell came as a volunteer and worked with installing water and sewer systems in the hospitals of the Grenfell Mission. But he didn't stop there. He got into making films of Newfoundland and Labrador. The rest is history and you will not be satisfied until you read all about it. Before the SS Viking left St. John's in March of 1931 newspapers of the day reported she was sailing into movie-making history. But no one ever dreamt the ship would be sailing to her doom. On board the Viking was movie director Varick Fissell and his camera crew from New York, there to finish shooting the film "White Thunder" for Paramount Pictures. This story, "The Day of Varick Frissell," is about the greatest hunt in the world - the seal hunt - and about the men who plunged out of the Narrows of St. John's and into the unknown. It is also the untold story of Varick Frissell and the explosion that blew the Viking apart. ", a fictional account, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo
